The Big Picture – a Love Story

We often do not see the little pictures that make up a bigger picture. The reason little things happen because a bigger purpose will unfold.

We were out feeding the homeless as usual on Thursday night. We were joined by a cub scout group that had been delayed from coming for several weeks because a stomach flu had hit the troop, and several people from C Beyond that also had been delayed from coming out to help us.

One of the men in the crowd made us aware of a young mother with two infants, 9 months old and 18 months old in a stroller. She was homeless. She had no food, clothing or diapers, just a bus ticket to New Mexico. She spoke Spanish. The baby’s cries were nearly silent. He would open his mouth and barley a sound would come out. Perhaps because the cry is never heard or responded to. They were filthy.

Out of all the days of the year, in this particular parking lot, at the same time of day we all meet. The scouts had brought food, water, clothing for women and children, toiletry kits and buddy bags with children’s things in them. C Beyond people spoke Spanish. One of our crew had diapers in the car. We were serving dinner.

Within an hour we had the children fed, took a rag with a bottle of water and cleaned the baby. We held him long enough to stop the cries and have him look up at us with wide brown eyes. The little girl never smiled but she ate. They had fresh diapers and clean clothes. We could communicate in her language.

We were being blessed with the opportunity to observe this little picture, this one scene in an epic love story directed by God. No special effects needed, just love. God's love for us all.
