Are you a missionary or a mission field?
Are you a mission field or a missionary?
I like to watch “What would you do?” on TV. I am intrigued by the people who help and those who don’t. I see some of the same attitudes when I ask for help with the homeless. I see it daily as people of different cultures inter mingle in our everyday lives. I see it simply neighbor to neighbor.
People in ministry often sacrifice their lives looking in the eyes of people they meet for the hopeful person in need or suffering. They go on mission trips to other countries to find them. You really do not need to go far to find them. They are in our backyards, the grocery store, and schools.
God doesn’t look on the outward appearance. He doesn’t care about wealth, culture and status. He is looking for people of noble character who fear Him, generous and radically kind people to find them. We can all be missionaries. You give of yourselves not out of pious pity but because of your faith. Be heroes of the faith. Your ‘stories’ won’t get written up in the papers. No one will know you, presidents and kings will not honor you. But your ‘stories’ of generosity and kindness are ones celebrated by THE King.
Is God calling you to spread your wings over someone today? Someone that may not look like you, shop where you do, a neighbor or even a relative? In this very messed up world it is time for us to give of our lives. Release the clutch we have on possessions and ease of life. Break free and be passionate about looking for that encounter where you can be loving, giving and self sacrificing.
One day you will leave this world. What will people, your family have to say about you? Your life? How you lived? Live every moment in the awareness that you are His representative here on earth. Leave an intentional legacy. Choose to be a missionary and not a mission field.
